Pool Time

[Photo: pool session Jan.2007, Sue Duffett]

Back in the saddle. Actually a very comfortable backband that a friend installed in my Perception Shadow. And now the stormy snowy freezing rain icy weather is upon us, it's time for our kayaks to bathe in warm chlorinated water as we continue to hone our skills, practise rescues & strokes.

kayaking in the warm, with lots of friends, good way to pass the winter!

You're right there, Claire. I envy Douglas being able to paddle throughout the year. Perhaps I could do it here. If the kayak didn't act as a sail when carrying it and blow me over in 90km winds, if the launch sites weren't under 10ft snow, if the water wasn't sub sub sub zero. If, if... ah, I'm just complaining :)

I agree Alison. Where's the Gulf Stream when you need it? Why is it all Labrador, all the time (well, I guess I did like those icebergs last summer...)?
I'm heading south soon. Meet you at the ferry?

Alison, we used to have access to a school pool about half an hour's drive away and several times the journey was made through snow. Unfortunately they changed regulations and insisted we have 3 lifeguards because the deep end was 12 foot! The club could not afford that so we lost our pool sessions.

One advantage is we are now more likely to go out in the winter. Even though we do have the gulf stream it's still pretty windy and wet.

I have managed out twice in January.

:o)

Hi Douglas, having the pool is terrific for the mind this time of year. It was minus 25C here on weekend - all I could do to get out x-country skiing. But I salute you for getting out in January & giving the rest of us a chance of see kayaking pics at this time of year. thanks & cheers, Alison
